Samurai

I'm a huge fan of the cartoon Samurai Jack and the character design in that show is incredible. So when I was designing the armor I made the helmet/mask portion look similar to Aku. 

"Samrye..... JACK!"

Bitemander

This is a made up pokemon I came up with. As I started to play around with shapes and design it started to have shark-like features so I took its pattern and coloring that direction. Maybe I'll have to show this in another illustration but I pictured this thing having massive teeth and multiple rows of them...

"Bitemander I choose you! Bite him in the face!"

Xenomorph! So I was looking up the word "xenophobia" a few days ago and it means "fear of that which is foreign or strange." But what is it called if you're terrified of xenomorphs? Xenomorphobia? That has a nice ring to it.

May the Shirt Be With You

A few weeks ago I submitted these two tshirt designs for a Star Wars tshirt contest with the theme "Darkside". For whatever reason the 8-bit design was rejected (maybe it was a little TOO similar to Megaman 2?), but the Jengo/Boba design ended up winning the Staff Pick award. I really had a lot of fun making both of them. I like the idea of Jengo and Boba as a father/son type image and the Slave ships as kites was perfect!  The 8-bit one took forever so it's too bad it didn't even get into the running (plus it would make a really awesome shirt!).

Character Designs

I've been taking some sketches from my sketchbook, coloring them and making them presentable so I can use them in my character design portfolio. I had a ton of fun drawing these little guys. Here's what I have so far.

The Seven Geases

For my Concept Design II class last semester we were given the story The Seven Geases by Clark Ashton Smith and then we were supposed to come up with designs and develop some looks for the characters from the story. The first one is Tsathoggua the frog/bat God, he's the first one Ralibar encounters. There's been a few images that people have done of Tsathoggua but it was a lot of fun creating a character out of text and coming up with my own design. The second is the archaeopteryx type bird that belongs to the Wizard who curses Ralibar. The bird is sent to lead Ralibar to where he needs to go. I wish I would have had more time to work on these paintings but it was a lot of fun to develop these guys from start to finish. I have a ton of sketches for these guys and other characters throughout the story. Ill post them once I get them back from Don Seegmiller.
