Still alive

It has been way too long since my last post. For Christmas my boss got me a Surface Pro 2 (!!!!) and this is what I came up with playing around on it in photoshop. It was a lot of fun! I just need to get a mouse for it because the track pad just isn't going to do it.

WIP Rick

I started slacking off after I finished up with Inktober. Sorry for the wait, hopefully this work in progress Rick can make up for it!

Paint Test

Here's a quick paint test I did on one of my zombies.

Skull test

I'm trying out a different painting style. This skull was inspired by work from the incredibly talented Tyson Murphy.

INKtober 31: Dem bones

Drybones from Mario was always such a cool character. You stomp on the bones but they just keep coming back. Kind of like a cockroach.

Happy Halloween!

INKtober 28

Zeke from Zombies Ate My Neighbors! It was one of the cooler games for the Super NES.

INKtober 27

The Striped Tongue Imp is known for stealing small household items and hiding them in the walls. On very rare occasions they have been known to attack small to medium sized house pets.

INKtober 26

Dr. Finklestein from Nightmare Before Christmas. This character was so terrifying to look at, but he always made me laugh.

"We'll have conversations WORTH having."

INKtober 25

Hans from the movie The Burbs!

INKtober 24

Lawn Zombie. Forever watering the lawn.

INKtober 23

Xenomorph! So I was looking up the word "xenophobia" a few days ago and it means "fear of that which is foreign or strange." But what is it called if you're terrified of xenomorphs? Xenomorphobia? That has a nice ring to it.

INKtober 22

The itchy Werewolf. Sometimes you just gotta give in to those animal instincts.

INKtober 21

This is another one of the movies I grew up on. All the puppet style creatures from the 80's and early 90's really influenced my art style.

"Now was that civilized? No, clearly not. Fun, but in no sense civilized."

Bela Lugosi as Dracula! Dramatic eye lighting included.

"I never drink . . . wine."

INKtober 15

Why is this creepy ghost tempting us with a key? Personally, I don't want to find out.

INKtober 14

After I did that first Treehouse of Horror drawing I had to do another. The gremlin on the side of the bus from Terror at 5 and 1/2 feet.

BART: No, no, no, it's true! There's a monster on the side of the bus!
SKINNER: The only monster on this bus is a lack of proper respect for the rules.

INKtober 13: Undeaderiffic

The walking dead is finally back! It's zombie time!

PS: Kill it with fire

INKtober 12: THRILLtober!

I absolutely love watching this music video during Halloween. The music, the costumes, the dancing, the Vincent Price, the spooky atmosphere; nothing puts me in the Halloween spirit more than Thriller!

"And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller"

INKtober 11: Ancient Mummy

When the dead rise they're always too busy to play.

INKtober 10

INKtober 10: Really old Knight. Maybe one of the Knights Templar?

INKtober 9!

It just wouldn't be Halloween without Treehouse of Horror. The older episodes are easily some of my all time favorites!

"We offered you paradise. You would have experienced emotions a hundred times greater than what you call love. And a thousand times greater than what you call fun."

INKtober 8

I guess this is a corpse? I'm not quite sure what it is, so I'm calling it, "Check please."

INKtober 7

INKtober 7: The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Late night swim practice.

It must be hard to blow up those floaties with a fish mouth.

Sunday, October 6, 2013

INKtober 6: What time is it? Lich time!

INKtober 6: Adventure Time's Lich King! Such an awesome TV show, the characters are always incredible, and this guy is easily one of my favorites.

"The book, Finn. Give me The book. Quickly, child. We are running out of time."

INKtober 5

INKtober 5: The silent killer, Nosferatu! This guys teeth are out of control. I remember the first time I ever saw Nosferatu when I was little, watching the film Salem's Lot. And I've been terrified ever since.

Day 4! (and day 1 ....)

So, unfortunately I got a late start with inktober ( I missed day 1), so today Im posting 2 drawings to get all caught up!

This is reminding me of Airk from the movie Willow. He'd make a beautiful skeleton.

This is one of those nice witches you almost never hear about.

Inktober Day 3

Here's my drawing I finished late last night:

There's a lot of tragedy going on here. Ill leave it up to the viewer to decide what happened.

Vincent Price

So even though I'm late I'm going to try and participate in inktober and do 1 drawing a day for all of October (I'm one day behind so I'll do 2 tomorrow). Vincent Price from Edward Scissorhands! (It's been a while since I posted guys, sorry!)

Here are some of the concepts I came up with while I was working on my zombie app. I have a ton in my sketchbook but these were some of my favorites.

Saturday, July 6, 2013

First of all, while you look at this piece you need to be listening to THIS!
I've been wanting to do a Zelda painting for a long time now, and I'm really excited to finally have it finished! This is one of the games I grew up on so it will always hold a special place in my heart container.

For anyone who's interested I have prints up for sale in my etsy shop!

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

I finally finished my interactive app "Mommy, Where Do Zombies Come From?". Here is one of the pages from it and also a final poster that was used for promotion. The BFA show was a huge success and I think all the people who came really had a lot of fun. In case you didn't get a chance to see the app you can check it out here on Android or Apple marketplace!

May the Shirt Be With You

A few weeks ago I submitted these two tshirt designs for a Star Wars tshirt contest with the theme "Darkside". For whatever reason the 8-bit design was rejected (maybe it was a little TOO similar to Megaman 2?), but the Jengo/Boba design ended up winning the Staff Pick award. I really had a lot of fun making both of them. I like the idea of Jengo and Boba as a father/son type image and the Slave ships as kites was perfect!  The 8-bit one took forever so it's too bad it didn't even get into the running (plus it would make a really awesome shirt!).

zbook progress

Here is some progress on my zbook. In this scene the user drags the chainsaw guy over to the crowd of zombies and limbs and heads start spewing out. It will be a fun one!

Get Away From Her You &#@%!

I grew up on this movie and this is easily one of my favorite scenes. H.R. Giger's design on the Aliens is so much fun to draw and Ripley is such an awesome character that I couldn't resist. This is a piece I've had in my sketchbook for a while and it feels great to finally get it done!

PS This REALLY makes me want to do something from Prometheus!
PPS No trash talking Prometheus on this blog.

Character Designs

I've been taking some sketches from my sketchbook, coloring them and making them presentable so I can use them in my character design portfolio. I had a ton of fun drawing these little guys. Here's what I have so far.

Little Red

This is an illustration I did for a character design assignment. Every time I heard this story growing up I always pictured the wolf being much more scary than he was in the old cartoons.

Happy Dog

I saw a fun picture of a Pitbull online so I thought it'd be fun to do a quick dog sketch!
